Suggested road trips in Tanzania
Tanzania is a very big country and a road trip paradise. We've set out some really nice routes, including the justifiably popular Northern Circuit with the well known Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, but also much lesser discovered areas, whereby we avoid taking ( expensive) domestic flights.
These suggested routes are great if you would like to experience the privacy and flexibility of self-drive in Tanzania, but peace of mind about which route to take and where to stay. You find answers to common questions related to self-drive car hire and safaris in the 'Before You Travel' section.
We are happy to point you in the right direction as you prepare for your self-drive holiday in Tanzania.
- Follow a carefully designed route
- Stay in hand-picked lodges
- Airport pick up & drop off
- 24 /7 roadside assistance
Highlights of the North
Tanzania is truly gifted by Mother Nature, but the Northern region really is the spoiled kid. You tumble from one legendary safari park to another, all within a stone's throw distance. You start and end in Arusha and visit Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater. Great to combine with a Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar add-on.
Bush to Beach
Where in the world can you combine world class safari, visit tribal villages, hike in mountains and swim in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean - into one epic trip? This is the ultimate one-way road trip. Start in Arusha and end in Dar es Salaam. The Usambaras and Swahili coast are far less touristy and possible to explore on a budget.
The wild south east
This roadtrip starts and ends in Dar es Salaam and covers the far less visited parks of south east Tanzania. Ideal for those that want to get of the tourist trail for friendly prices. Go on world class safari in Ruaha National Park and Selous Game Reserve, experience local village in typical highland villages, and go birding and primate trekking in the Udzungwa Mountains.
