Hire a 4x4 with driver-guide: the ultimate customised safari!

Would you like to visit Uganda but feel unsure about driving yourself?

There are various reasons why some people opt to go with a driver- guide; because they enjoy the company, because the driver can give you deeper insights into Ugandan culture; because they want to explore lesser visited areas, because they know they stress out easily when something unexpected happens like getting a flat tire, or because they find driving and paying attention to the route too tiresome and want a more relaxed experience.

Likewise, there are various reasons why people don't opt for a driver. Such as, that they enjoy to drive themselves and/ or want privacy.

Whatever you choose, we got you covered! We are specialised in self-drive car rental and most of our clients choose to self drive. But Roadtrip Uganda also works with a number of experienced and truly lovable driver-guides who speak good English. Alternatively, you can always pick up a ranger- guide at the national park entrance gates, to help you spot the wild life better. This costs $ 20 and can simply be arranged at the park gate.

What are the costs of a private, customised safari?

The costs for a chauffeur driven car are € 35 / day and all the proceeds go to the driver. This fee also covers his meals and accommodation. You don't need to arrange accomodation for him, as the lodges have facilities for the driver-guides where they can eat and sleep for a reduced rate. In case you go on a Uganda camping trip, we also supply your driver with camping gear. As there are no facilities to eat elsewhere inside the Ugandan national parks, we ask that you buy some extra groceries and cook your meals together. Most drivers are pretty good bush cooks and know how to start a camp fire.

When you travel into a National Park with him, you do have to pay for his entrance fee of appr $ 5 / day, depending on the park.

Note that fuel remains your own expense. The car is delivered with a full tank and you return it with a full tank.

What can I expect from my driver-guide on my Uganda road trip?

You can expect from your driver that he will get you to your destination safely and is responsible for the well-being of the car. He will also do game drives in the safari parks and he knows the best places to go for a lunch-break or stocking up supplies. They are also happy to share their knowledge about Uganda, so ask him anything and you return home with a deeper understanding of Uganda, and a new friend.
