Madagascar's west coast
Madagascar’s west coast is wild, remote, and full of adventure. It’s one of the most off-the-beaten-track regions you can explore by 4x4, with dusty trails, ferry crossings, and baobabs.
Surprisingly, you’ll also find some great beach hotels tucked along the route. One exception is Hotel Kanto in Manja, which is basic - but offers an authentic overnight stop in a truly local setting. If you're open to simple comforts and warm hospitality, staying in a local guesthouse in a remote village can be a rewarding part of the experience.
Where to stay in Salary Bay
If you’ve made it to Salary Bay, congrats - you’ve likely just tackled your first stretch of off-road adventure. The reward? Ocean views, white sand, and a row of peaceful beach lodges where you can truly slow down.

Where to stay in Andavadoaka

A stylish, secluded retreat with thoughtful design:
Where to stay in Manja
Manja offers just one accommodation option; a very basic guesthouse compared to the rest of our guide. It’s a necessary stopover to break up the long drive from Andavadoaka to either Morondava or Belo sur Mer.
Because it's a simple guesthouse in a remote area, they don’t usually handle reservations via email. Instead, contact them on WhatsApp at +261324752169. If you don’t hear back, don’t worry - rooms are generally available if you just show up.
Budget option
Basic and straightforward, just what you need for a pit stop:
Where to stay in Belo sur Mer
If your schedule allows, take the scenic detour from Manja to Morondava via Belo sur Mer. This remote coastal village is peaceful and beautifully isolated.
We recommend staying at least two nights, as it takes around 4 hours to get here from Manja and another 4 hours to reach Morondava.
Mid-range option
The perfect place to unwind:
Unwind from your off-road adventure at Hotel Entremer's hammocks, sipping on a homemade Coco Rum punch and listening to the ocean waves.
