Kondoa accommodation tips
The Kondoa Rock Art Site is a unique and fascinating collection of ancient rock paintings located in central Tanzania. The paintings, which date back over 2,000 years, depict a variety of scenes from everyday life, as well as religious and spiritual motifs. The site features over 150 shelters, with more than 20,000 individual paintings, making it one of the largest and most important collections of rock art in Africa. Since 2006 the site has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Visitors can explore the site with the help of local guides, who can provide insights into the history, culture, and symbolism of the paintings. The site is also located near other cultural and natural attractions, such as the nearby Irangi Hills and the Makonde Plateau, a true off-the-beaten-track location.
